Salvation in Here

Couple of months ago we went to Niland, California for Harper's Bazaar Indonesia cover & fashion spread photo shoot. This one is from Salvation Mountain.

We got the chance to met Leonard Knight, the man behind the installation art, he made it (as you can see in the background) from adobe, straw & paint to convey the message that "God Loves Everyone." It was also featured in the movie "Into the Wild" directed by Sean Penn.

Once again, Frida Kahlo inspired Anton Ismael to do this work. Big thanks to Izabel Jahja from Harper's Bazaar Indonesia for making this happen.

The Hardest Thing

What Do You See?

The Rorschach inkblot test or simply the Inkblot test) is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex scientifically derived algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning.

Berangkat dari Rorschach inkblot test, Kami, siswa Kelas Pagi berusaha menginterpretasikan karya photography dari inkblot yang dibuat peserta pameran sesuai dengan imajinasi masing-masing individu.

Unity in Diversity

So here we were at the opening of Unity in Diversity Photo Exhibition. We spend 2 months in Pusat Kebudayaan Rusia, learning about Russian culture through their pictures & comparing it to ours. And then we spent a month for curating & preparing the exhibition.

The director & his wife opened the exhibition thanking their son Eugene and Anton Ismael, without their friendship there will be no cooperation between Kelas Pagi & Pusat Kebudayaan Rusia. And we wouldn't be able to celebrate the 60th anniversary establishment of the diplomatic relations between Indonesia & Russia together. Then we all feast on Madam's delicious homemade Russian food whilst listening to Komunitas Taman Suropati Chamber music. On Friday March 26th we had a visit from Kelas Pagi Yogyakarta & on the closing day we did "Bedah Foto" with Ray Bachtiar & Fendi Siregar.

We also would like to say big thanks to Nikolay, Mbak Dian, Mr. & Madam Director and everyone who came & went to see our exhibition. We simply couldn't ask for more. We thank each & every one of you, and we hope to see you again in the future. Once again, thanks so much everybody!!

The Event

Hey-ho!! Sorry for the delay on updating the blog, but we do have an excuse.. ;)

This is what we've been doing this last couple of months. Kelas Pagi & The Russian Center for Science and Culture in Jakarta are preparing a exhibition involving 2 countries and 100 photos. This event is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia. That's why we called it "Unity in Diversity".

The event will take place at Jl. Diponegoro No. 12 Menteng, Jakarta Pusat. It starts at 7 pm Monday the 22th of March and will be open by Oscar Motuloh (Head of Kantor Berita Antara).

Key to Russia

Since January, we've been frequently visiting Pusat Kebudayaan Rusia at Jalan Diponegoro - Menteng. we are taking part on a project called Key's. In Russian language the word Key means a beginning, a source. So that's exactly what we wanted to do, to start a new kind of relationship between Indonesia & Russia in education program.

We got the chance to learn about their propaganda pictures. Which is what we've been doing this past months in Kelas Pagi Angkatan IV. And we also get to see old Russian photos and pick one of them that we are really drawn into & then we must create a picture to out done them. It seems so hard to do at first, but then we have time to present our work to the class & get comments in return. After all we are going to held an exhibition there next month.

After every class, we get to see Russian short movie originally made by old & young Russian film makers. They also had new photo exhibitions from Russian artist every week there. Fun Stuff!! If you wanna more about it just click to this link. Please stay tune for more info.. ;)

Ay, MACABRE!!

Rumah Dara (also called Macabre/ Darah in Singapore) is probably the first horror-thriller-slasher movie ever made in Indonesia. When we first approached by The Mo Brothers (Timo & Kimo - writers & directors duo) to make this project we just couldn't say no, it's only the most exciting movie ever!!

The posters is a bit tricky though. We have to make several version of them, off course it's because they were released in several different countries, but the truth is there's so many characters in this movie, we really wanted to make different poster for each of them, but at the end we have to narrowed it down to only 5 characters.

Let's Go To Camp!!

Fact: Photography is the most favorite subject in Paramadina University according to the polls amongst the students, this is why they held the event "EPIC" which is a photography exhibition, seminar & workshop every year now. Last Saturday, together with Robby Irsyad & Iman Brotoseno, we took the chance of 'corrupting' the young minds of Paramadina University. We spend 2 whole hours to share our knowledge on the subject of fashion photography with simple equipments, because photography shouldn't be limited with heavy & expensive tools. We hope our contribution is accepted & all the participant had fun. Special thanks to Pak Budi for inviting and Dika for taking care of us.
