DRUPADI
This is an old project of ours, Drupadi The Movie is a short musical drama that was released late last year. We were asked to join this project to provide all still photos for the book and we said yes, off course. :)
The story of Drupadi is amazingly modern, based on the epic story of Mahabharata from India which we all here probably refer as Wayang, is a story about Drupadi (Dian Sastrowardoyo), a woman who refuses to be a commodity of love & took a stand to what she believes in, which is her heart. Also took part Nicolas Saputra as Arjuna & many other famous names in Indonesian film making such as Riri Riza (Director) & Mira Lesmana (Producer).
The movie took a very artistic approach combining music & dance with classic Javanese settings. Our crew joined all the cast & film crew at Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardjo, Bantul for 10 days of shooting to take behind the scene photos & also several more days at Parangkusumo Beach. Meanwhile, back in Jakarta we are still have got to prepare more artwork for the Drupadi Exhibition that was held in Bali.
We took a direct approach with this project, we project the picture that already been taken before & projected them to a screen. We borrow this technic from Wayang Kulit Dalang, they often use screen to create a certain kind of illusion to an object. A silhouette or a juxtaposition.
We felt really honored to be able to contribute & be part of this great ensemble. Hope you guys will enjoy it as much as we do.
